Playing in a downpour Sunday afternoon at Douglas College, the Capilano Blues suffered a stream of goals by 2024 CCAA All-Canadian Isabella Dobbin in a 6-0 defeat.
Dobbin and Chiara Lucarelli scored in the first half to put the Royals up two at the break and Dobbin completed her hat trick plus another late in the game for a four-goal outing. Justina Parks added the other Royals goal in the second half.
The setback has the Blues still trying to find a way into the win column after two weeks of PACWEST play.
Capilano missed the presence and experience of injured captain Lauren Grey on the back line though defenders Isabella Bolognese, Meghan Ferguson, Ella Jennings and Erika Di Lorenzo did their utmost and kept a high work rate throughout the game. Ferguson has been impressive in her rookie season and delivered several nice balls on free kicks Sunday.
The Blues best chance to score at Douglas came in the 86th minute when a Jennings ball was touched forward to Leah Herald who sent Sophie Pather down the left side for service to Sam Misceo but Royals keeper Estelle Gonzalez stopped Misceo’s direction on net.
The PACWEST schedule has Capilano headed to Vancouver Island the weekend of Sept. 20 and 21. The Blues will face the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners Saturday and Sunday with both games kicking off at 12:30 p.m.
Capilano is home again Sept. 27 for a 1 p.m. game against Douglas.
