Heading into PACWEST Week 4 action, Maddy Coffin was already among the league leaders in points per game yet she somehow managed to increase her rate, going for 20-plus points each game in a pair of wins over the Langara Falcons.
After posting a game-high 20 points in Thursday’s home win, the fifth-year North Vancouver product went for 24, including four three-pointers in a 58-51 road win at Langara. She is now averaging 18.3 points per game.
As a team, scoring was sluggish at the start but Coffin hit two of her four threes in the opening 10 minutes. Lauren Tomlinson also hit from beyond the arc in the second quarter while Barcha Hnizdilova did the hustle work with five of her 13 boards plus three assists in the second, helping Capilano to a six-point lead at the break.
Coffin served up more scoring coming out of halftime with another three and she got to the free throw line as well, converting twice from the stripe and putting the Blues ahead 15 points going to the final frame .
Mia Parkin had four of her seven points in the third quarter along with four of her 11 boards. Spanish international Lucia Lopez had four of her six points in the third frame and totaled six rebounds and two steals as well as she works back to health from a preseason injury.
The Falcons chipped away a bit in the final frame but the Blues defence continues to be a story as they have now won five-straight games without allowing more than 54 points against. On the offensive side of the ball, beyond Coffin, Capilano could use a few more pistons firing when they head to Vancouver Island University for Nov. 14-15 game against the Mariners.
