Zach Klim set a new career high in points with 32 in Friday's win over Columbia Bible College (CBC) and the personal record stood for all of one night.
The Blues' 6-foot-11 forward went off for 40 the next night to help Capilano to their fourth consecutive win and a weekend sweep of the Bearcats.
Capilano downed CBC 90-86 on Friday and followed up with a 106-75 victory Saturday. The Blues now carry a 14-8 record and sit in third in the PACWEST standings.
Friday's game required a heroic team effort in the fourth quarter to come back and claim the win. Trailing by a point coming out of halftime, the Blues sagged in the third quarter while CBC's D'Andre Palmer-Ormsby went berserk with 17 of his 26 points on 8-of-8 shooting. The performance put the Bearcats in a commanding 14-point lead heading to the final frame but the hosts were humbled in the fourth with the Blues producing their most productive quarter of the night to come back and win.
Klim made the Blues first two buckets in the fourth to begin the response and Afu Bullock supplied a boost with buckets in quick succession near the five-minute mark of the fourth to get CapU within three. Kash Lang finished a bucket and-one to tie the game 78-78 and Alphonso Reyes also completed an and-one to give the Blues their first lead at 87-86 with less than a minute to go. Reyes put the finishing touches on the night with another and-one.
On Saturday, Klim started quickly with 12 points and five boards in the first quarter. He exploded for 17 in the third quarter and, unlike Friday, the Blues didn't suffer a dropoff in production, outscoring CBC each quarter. Klim pulled down 13 boards Saturday to give him a weekend line of 72 points and 28 boards.
Sitting in third place at the moment, Capilano is two games up on Langara who happens to be their opposition this week. It's a home-and-home set with Friday's game at Langara and Saturday's at CapU. The Blues can't move up in the standings but could be overtaken by Langara if they can't earn at least a split.
Saturday's game at Capilano starts at 7 p.m.
