Blues Crew, Communications
Kash Lang moves into second all-time scoring in a 101-61 victory and weekend sweep against the visiting Douglas College Royals.
The first quarter started strong with communication aiding their play and helping them find their rhythm against the Royals' defence. Zach Klim opened the night, giving them their first points with an assist from Afu Bullock. Zach Hamed found himself making plays at the 3-point line, extending the lead for the Blues. Back-to-back layups from Bullock and Klim gave them a 10-3 lead. Bullock continued attacking the paint with multiple layups, bringing the game to 19-7. Capilano kept their composure in the offensive end, forcing Douglas to call their first timeout of the night. Back-to-back layups for the Blues following the timeout pushed the lead to 30-17 heading into the second.
The second quarter started slowly as Douglas shifted momentum back in their favour. Anthony Tamburrino and Daniel Abkenar were instrumental in breaking that run. Tamburrino got 10 points in the first 7 minutes, and Abkenar’s performance at the rim anchored the team in the paint. Their combined performances, along with defensive contributions from the rest of the team, forced Douglas to call a timeout to reset. Lang’s contributions from the 3-point line began to show. Following in Lang’s footsteps, Sukhraj Garcha added to the scoreboard with a 3-point jumpshot, giving CapU a 20-point lead at 52-32 heading into halftime.
Klim came out of halftime with the same energy he started the game with, knocking down back-to-back shots to immediately extend Capilano’s lead. Garcha followed with a strong finish at the rim, bringing the score to 60–39 while challenging the Douglas offence. Klim had a powerful dunk late in the third that brought the entire bench to its feet, leading to a Douglas timeout.
Coming out of the break, Lang kept the pressure on offensively while Justin Pamintuan added a three-pointer to the scoreboard. Tamburrino continued to make an impact with his effort in the paint, helping the Blues maintain control of the pace. CapU's continued communication led to execution, on both ends of the floor, closing the quarter with a 77–47 lead.
With the game in hand, the fourth quarter allowed Capilano’s depth to shine. With the whole team contributing, the Blues refused to let the Royals take the game back. After another Douglas timeout at 83–54, Capilano kept their momentum. Lang added a late layup to seal the performance as the Blues closed out the night in dominant fashion with a 101–61 victory.
