Alfonso Reyes exploded for a season-high 27 points and 14 rebounds coming off the bench to help the Capilano Blues to a 90-71 win over the Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats Thursday in the PACWEST quarter-finals.
Capilano was a bit permissive in the early going, allowing CBC 27 points in the first quarter. Zach Klim kept the Blues in it early, scoring 10 of his 22 in the opening frame while Kash Lang hit two of his three triples on the night in the second quarter to keep Capilano in the game.
CBC took a 45-41 lead to halftime on the strength of 18 first-half points by Daylen Webb but Capilano came out of the break with some adjustments to slow the Bearcats scorers and played a dominant defensive third quarter while Reyes added 11 points in that quarter alone.
Klim finished the game strong with eight points in the final frame, and ended up shooting 10-of-14 from the floor, as Capilano won it going away. Sukhraj Garcha wasn't called on to score much Thursday for Capilano but filled his stat line with nine boards and six assists while Daniel Abkenar contributed four points and seven boards in nine minutes off the bench.
Capilano advances to Friday's semifinal, a 3 p.m. tipoff against the No. 2 seed Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners in a rematch of the 2025 title game.
Reyes was named Player of the Game for the Blues.
