Kash Lang matched a career high with 31 points Saturday to lead the Capilano Blues to a 98-88 win at Vancouver Island University (VIU).
The win secured a split of the weekend after an 85-77 loss on Friday night.
Lang played all but two minutes on Saturday and increased his production with each quarter. Getting his teammates involved early, he had three assists in the opening frame as both teams shot the ball well off the tipoff. Lang hit his first of six threes on the game and Peter Li, returning to the court he spent the last three seasons, hitting two of his three.
Capilano led 45-44 at halftime and came out with their best scoring quarter of the season, racking up 31 in the third quarter which included nine from Lang, all via the three ball.
Lang was supported Saturday by the frontcourt Zach tandem of Klim and Hamed, who posted 17 and nine points respectively. Hamed filled his stat line with a game-high 11 rebounds and he also handed out six assists.
A trio of buckets plus makes from the free throw line added up to 10 points for Lang in the fourth quarter, allowing him to match the 31 he scored against Douglas College on Jan. 26, 2024. His six three pointers Saturday were a new career high.
In Friday’s game, a second quarter Blues lapse led to VIU grabbing a nine-point lead. The Mariners went on an 17-5 run in the second, keyed by Ekman Sohal and Winston Cole who combined for 17 points in the frame.
Sukhraj Garcha kept the Blues hanging around, scoring 13 of his 16 in the second half but buckets were tough to come by for his teammates, especially in the third, as VIU steered it home for the win.
Hamed had 10 boards Friday and reached double digits in the category each game at VIU.
Capilano is on the road with games at Okanagan College Nov. 21 and 22. Their next home games, the final Blues PACWEST games of 2025, are Nov. 28 and 29 against Columbia Bible College.
