CapU Blues sports info
It's becoming a familiar formula for the Capilano Blues and it has now helped them to four straight wins.
Defensive prowess plus contributions from each player in uniform paved the way to a 63-47 home win Thursday over the Langara Falcons. After a loss in the season opener at Douglas, CapU is now 4-1 in PACWEST play and has not allowed more than 54 points during the winning streak.
On Thursday, the Blues started strong behind Mia Parkin's six points and three assists on the way to a 20-10 lead after the first quarter. Langara crept back in the second, though each team struggled shooting the ball, especially from three. Langara missed both three-point shot attempts in the frame on their way to a 3-for-16 night from beyond the arc while Capilano was 0-for-7 in the second quarter and 3-for-23 on the night.
Capilano turned an eight-point halftime lead into a 14-point advantage thanks to a trio of buckets from Barcha Hnizdilova and seven points from Parkin coming out of the break. She'd finish with a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds while handing out five assists.
Langara's last gasp was a quick start to the final frame where they got within 10 at 49-39 on a three from Avaani Pagely. On the very next possession, Lauren Tomlinson had just the response the Blues needed as she converted a running left-handed layup while getting fouled for the and-one bucket and she knocked down the free throw to restore some breathing room for the home side.
Maddy Coffin saved her best for last with seven of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter. The fifth-year forward added seven boards and three assists in 35 minutes of work.
Capilano's entire lineup saw significant floor time on the night including rookies Alanna Schieman, who hit an important three in the third quarter, Jade de Fondaumiere and Sasha Neuhaus.
In a rare Thursday-Saturday home-and-home set with the Falcons, Capilano travels to Langara Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
