Zach Klim made history Saturday afternoon, becoming Capilano men’s all-time leading rebounder after pulling down 17 boards to bring his career total to 410. With former record holder Luke Wera, who previously held the mark at 405, in attendance, the milestone carried even greater significance. Klim’s historic performance also fueled the Blues’ success, as they completed a weekend sweep against the visiting Okanagan College Coyotes.
The Blues dominantly opened the first quarter, led by Sukhraj Garcha, who scored the opening four points. Zach Hamed and Kash Lang followed with three-pointers to spark a 10–0 run. With Garcha and Klim combining for six more points, Capilano forced the Okanagan College Coyotes to call a timeout as the score stretched to 16–6. The Blues continued their strong push to close the quarter ahead 29–18.
The Blues’ aggressive play style continued throughout the second quarter, in part, due to continued work from Lang and immediate action from forward Alfonso Reyes, who stepped on the court and drilled back-to-back threes. Lang led the second quarter with 17 points, while Reyes added 12 points to support the offence's surge. Klim ended the second with an impressive 7 rebounds, needing only 6 more to break the record. This saw the Blues extend their lead to 59-36 by halftime.
Lang started the third quarter with a 3-pointer, continuing the Blues’ assertive presence and continued dominance. OC mirrored CapU’s aggressive playstyle with back-to-back rebounds to three-pointers, forcing Capilano to call a timeout and reset. Following this, Anthony Tamburrino showed that the Blues weren't backing down, attacking the rim aggressively on his way to a season-high 12 points. Garcha continued to display his importance to the team with 5 assists, showcasing his impressive ball distribution abilities. Capilano ended the third with a score of 80-59.
Klim continued to dominate in the fourth quarter, finishing the night with 21 points. A big block from Reyes energized the Blues, who kept the pressure on and forced Okanagan College to call a timeout at 87–66. Capilano played with intensity throughout the match, and with five minutes remaining in the fourth, Klim officially surpassed the all-time rebounding record, capping off a standout performance. The final score was 102-76 for the Blues.
Capilano now hits the road as they head to Victoria, where they will meet the Camosun Chargers on Jan. 23 and 24. The next home games from the Blues will take place back at the Centre for Sport and Wellness on Jan. 30 and 31.
