Capilano Blues senior forward Maddy Coffin has been named the PACWEST Player of the Year.
The fifth-year veteran turned in the best season of her career, averaging a conference-leading 17.1 points per game while collecting 6.5 boards per contest.
On Feb. 20, Coffin became the Blues all-time leading scorer when she surpassed Carmelle M'Bikata during a 20-point outing against the Langara College Falcons. The local North Vancouver native and graduate of Seycove Secondary scored in double-digits in 20 of the 22 games she played and matched a career-high when she went for 35 points in a Nov. 22 game at Okanagan College. She recorded three double-doubles on the campaign, including a 22-point, 12-rebound game in the seasone finale against Langara.
Coffin finishes her Blues career with 1,196 career points and would have gone over 1,200 had the Blues not had two games against Okanagan College canceled in January.
This is the first time a Blues women's basketball player has taken the Player of the Year nod since 2017 when Carmelle M'Bikata earned the honour. It is also the first time since 2018 that two Blues athletes have been named Player of the Year in their respective sports as Abby Betker took the same honour, announced Feb. 26, for PACWEST volleyball. The last time two Blues earned this accolade was in 2018 when Keith Jackson took it for soccer and Simon Friesen took volleyball's award.
